sooooo wrong

I'm not sure about the rest of the book, but in one of the last chapters this book states the Mars Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, were horrible failures that never worked!! That is such a GLARING historical mistake, what else did this author get wrong?

Great idea, poorly implemented

Some of the titles are weak (Adam and Eve? Really?) but overall it is a great idea for a book.
As several other reviews say, it totally screwed up the bit on the Mars rovers. It also gets other things wrong, like having Nero burning Rome.
Finally, it is poorly written. The chapter on Troy takes an interesting story, and turns it into a poorly written muddle. The chapter on Hannibal is poorly written and is a factual stretch.
I'd love to see someone else tackle this subject, with maybe 2/3 of the titles but the same number of pages; and put some effort, scholarship, and skill into the effort.
I want to give this book 2 stars because the idea is great, but I just can't. The cover material is the kind that picks up finger smears easily, but it is what is between the covers that is really bad.

Mars Spirit and Opportuniy failed to function? Learn to proofread.

In one of "Publishing's Worst Decisions", someone forgot to proofread a book about mistakes. On page 234 of my copy the book states that "The twin Mars Expedition Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, failed to function once they landed because simple commands could not be understood."
Someone should alert the JPL that both rovers they drove for 6 years around Mars collecting data and the one that they are still driving aren't working.
I read the book for all of 15 minutes and found this mistake, and wonder how such sloppy fact-checking made it into a chapter about sloppy fact-checking.
