Not my cup of tea

29% in and I just...can't.

I got this as a Kindle Unlimited rental and I didn't realize that it's

a) a cliffhanger serial(which I loathe) and
b) there's involvement of the hero with other women (or it definitely seems like it, as the narrative is a bit jumbled) and that's a major turnoff for me.

The "mystery" of who Julian is - it's not a mystery, it's very clear. Eva isn't a compelling heroine. She keeps being described as a strong woman but you telling me isn't the same as showing me. About the most I would give her is that she moved away from the US to Ireland, which is brave.

The Bottom Line
I couldn't get into it and when it seemed as if the hero's hooking up with another woman, I just had to drop out.

However, if serials are your thing, and you don't mind some side action for the hero, you may feel differently. Not for me.

Not a fan

Evangeline is quite possibly the worst heroine in a romance novel that I've ever read, add to that a completely unbelievable plot line-contrived from the get-go. One positive critique: the sex scenes are very well written-hot, Hot, HOT! But our author loses many points with me when she has Evangeline using Euro slang, even tho she was supposedly born and raised in New Jersey. A note for Ms. Harris: American girls refer to their underwear as underwear or panties, NEVER knickers, (To an American girl, knickers are those pants that end at the knee cap) A television is just that or a T.V., Boob-Tube, maybe a few other things, but we would never refer to it as "telly". Please don't make me go into the whole "arse vs. ass" debate. While these things may seem trivial to others, as a reader, they seriously take away from my enjoyment of the book. I would have liked a little more of Evangeline's back story in the beginning of the book, maybe then she might not have come across so strongly as a weak-willed, weak-kneed, washed-out wall-flower with no redeeming qualities. For the life of me, I cannot fathom why Mr. Harte chose her for ANYTHING.

After a quick moral inventory and internet search she stumbles upon Julian Harte, escort millionaire extraordinaire. He is perfect- incredibly sexy, incredibly well spoken and incredibly rich. The problem was Julian Harte didn't want to be paid in money but wanted to play a game instead.

Being inexperienced in the men department, Evangeline is not sure she can handle such a game but perhaps it is exactly what she needs to break her out of her shell. Besides, her mysterious boss, Mr. Doe, called her into his office specifically to tell her she must attend the ball.
So the game begins, but soon Evangeline is sucked into a world where her inhibitions are lost but soon she finds herself falling for a man who only wants one thing from her?

"You’re looking for a fairy-tale, Evangeline. I’m not Prince Charming. I’ve told you that.’ Eva snorted. If there was one thing she knew for certain; it was that Julian was as far from Prince Charming as they came. She tried to smile but the pain in her heart made it hard. ‘I can’t be your booty call, Julian. It’s not who I am."

Rules of Harte is Brooke Harris' debut novel and the first story in the Harte Series. Boy, she started off with a bang! It is told from Evangeline's POV for most of the story but every now and then you get a quick look at what Julian in thinking and it makes the story even better! This book captured every element you would want in a fantasy. From the amazingly hott sex scenes that made me squirm to the soft and delicate romantic parts that made my heart swell, Brooke painted such a vivid picture of Evangeline and Julian that I felt like I was actually part of the story!

Evangeline was an unlikely heroine in the beginning but as she shed her inhibitions at the hands of Julian she not only found pleasure, she also found strength. By the end of the story she wasn't the girl with mousy brown hair that hid under her cardigan and blended into the wall but a strong, beautiful, well dressed woman who held her head high. It was like watching the grown up version of the Ugly Duckling.

Julian is pure sex in a suit! He knows exactly what he wants and did not take no for an answer. He is a self made millionaire with a dark pass that we don't learn much about. It left me wanting more answers about my new book boyfriend! He made it perfectly clear to Evangeline that he was not interested in a relationship and that "love was overrated" but he also could not get her out of his head. It is almost like his actions and words are constantly contradicting themselves.

I can not wait to see how the Evangeline and Julian story plays out since it did end with somewhat of a cliffhanger and can not wait for more from Brooke Harris. She has dazzled me with Rules of Harte!!!

About the Author
David Hilbert (1862-1943) received his PhD from the University of K?nigsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia) in 1884. He remained there until 1895, after which he was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the University of G?ttingen. He held this professorship for most of his life. Hilbert is recognized as one of the most influential mathematicians of the 19th and early 20th centuries. His own discoveries alone would have given him that honour, yet it was his leadership in the field of mathematics throughout his later life that distinguishes him. Hilbert's name is given to Infinite-Dimensional space, called Hilbert space, used as a conception for the mathematical analysis of the kinetic gas theory and the theory of radiations.

Richard Courant (1888-1972) obtained his doctorate at the University of G?ttingen in 1910. Here, he became Hilbert's assistant. He returned to G?ttingen to continue his research after World War I, and founded and headed the university's Mathematical Institute. In 1933, Courant left Germany for England, from whence he went on to the United States after a year. In 1936, he became a professor at the New York University. Here, he headed the Department of Mathematics and was Director of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences - which was subsequently renamed the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. state of the art in the 50's

Beware the german edition is the prewar edition, and the english edition is a

complete overhaul to include modern material at the time. This is not really a

textbook, but a sourcebook of "issues" in partial differential equations. Some

problems have been forgotten now due to the focussing on real, linear equations

and weak solutions (as described, for example, in the books by Hormander). It is

a gem for who wants some taste of the full breadth of theory of PDE's.

partial differentiual equations

Vol. I is standard mathematical physics. I've only used vol. II for one topic, first order partial differential equations, linear, quasilinear, and nonlinear. The treatment is very good. This is not a standard topic, it's rarely if ever taught to physicists. Readers brought up on standard math physics will likely be surprised to learn that first order pdes are 1-1 with dynamical systems. Other recommendable books on first order pdes are Duff, Sneddon, Garabedian, and John.

Good read for Django developers!

You need to be familiar with Python & know basics of building an app with Django before starting this book!

I have read articles written by Arun Ravindran and watched his screencasts & talks. So I brought the book as soon as it released.

The book has various design patterns to solve everyday problems while building web apps. It also engages readers with stories & examples to get a better understanding of concepts.

If You have started Django, this book will save a lot of time. If You are an experienced developer, You will find some patterns & best practices to clean up Your code.

Going to the next level with Django

Arun has made an excellent contribution to the myriad "learn Django" environment. I highly recommend this book to people who have completed the infamous polls tutorial as it represents a great survey of topics that the beginner would greatly benefit from using in practice.

The treatments on models and class based views are particularly noteworthy. It would have been nice seeing some more content on custom template tags but alas that's almost a book in and of itself. Forms are properly treated as the data validating powerhouses they are. The comprehensive overview of testing is really fantastic along with recommendations on debugging tools that are standard amongst Django developers.

If you are looking to go from beginner to affective in Django - this is a great way to do that.

You have to know some basics of Python and Django to read this book, but it is very readable and well organized.
It offer the opportunity to understand deeply the django framework and designs patterns. It provide solutions to every day problems a django developer may encounter. The examples provided allow you to practice and understand the key concepts. I recommand to improve your best practices.
