STEVEN A. HITZ Steven A. Hitz, along with his wife, Ginger L. Hitz, founded US–Reports, Inc. in 1988. Since then, the company has grown to become the largest, uniquely structured corporate footprint of its kind, providing loss control, premium audit, and risk assessment services to over 500 insurance companies. In 2010, US–Reports became a member of The Kaufman Financial Group, the world’s largest independent insurance broker. Steve still serves as CEO of the company. Steve has long been passionate about working to achieve business innovation, and has surrounded himself with an astute team of gifted minds and hearts. In an effort to share this passion, he and Ginger are charter members of Launching Leaders, a career training and personal development program that has successfully graduated more than 200 students since its inception in 2011. Along with their continued involvement with US–Reports, they continue operating other businesses involved with the banking, real estate, and farming industries. Life Changing Principles

The author does an amazing job of helping to understand the paradox of how one can give back to others while competing for personal stability in today's business world. In applying these principles to my life I have noticed a greater ease in my desires to help others, especially in the workplace. I have also noticed that the byproduct of serving others has been an increase in our family's financial stability. This book is changing our family's life for the better. I give this book my highest recommendation.

Make a Plan

This book was required for a Business class of mine, but it was a great read. My wife and I plan to read it again this summer when we're on break. It doesn't focus on how to run a business as much as it does on how to prepare to make great life choices that will help in any business. One of the best pieces of advice is that you can't separate your "Home Life" from your "Work Life". If they are working against each other you'll never rise as far as you will if your entire life is working in concert.

Very factual and less than imaginative; shallow analysis

As an avid reader, I thought many chapters of this book stated facts, ideas, and deductions that have been told and maybe even retold in other publications and best sellers. To me this book was quite redundant.

The book has 20 chapters and each chapter is written by a different writer associated with the Economist magazine.

For many chapters, the title was more noteworthy than the content. For example, in a chapter titled "The exponential future", the author basically restates the title. The future technology will grow exponentially and it will have profound (only couple of vague examples given) impact on the future. In another chapter lableled "The Asian century", the author states that China's rising population and economy will make a substantial impact on the global economy and the Asian economy as a whole. Oh really? So where is the deeper analysis and imagination?

If you have never read a book about the future trends (probably majority), then the contents in this book will be very noteworthy. I meet way too many Americans who are still stuck with "America is #1" mentality when America is quickly losing its edge in practically everything. For example, as this book states, did you know that America's life expectancy is not even top 30 in the world? The book also highlights that America's wealth doesn't coincide with its quality of life, which is low by OECD standards. Yes, Americans live way better than countries like North Korea, but its quality of life pales in comparison to many wealthier nations. The future doesn't look that much brighter either. It hurts me that America is losing its competitive and quality-of-life edge and it is frustrating to see how little of this is known by the general American public.

I recommend this book to the general population. I recommend it far less to those who are already familiar with much of the problems and advancements facing America and the world today how they might impact the future.

Practical, clearly written, systematic guide to the near future

This anthology's essays forecast future developments in areas from social media to religion. Daniel Franklin, executive editor and business affairs editor of The Economist, and John Andrews, a writer for the magazine for 30 years, compiled and edited this volume. Since all 20 writers contribute to The Economist, they share a lucid style and a generally aligned conceptual framework. No one can promise accurate predictions, but these reporters share deeply informed insights about forces that will affect the world by 2050. The result is a useful, intriguing mosaic of the near future. The writers clearly explain complex concepts as their shared references let one essay build synergistically on the next. Readers who already know the contents of one essay will turn the page to remark on how startling the next one is. getAbstract recommends this collection to futurists, long-term planners, and readers interested in social analysis and forecasting.

I am firmly on the optimistic side and my favourite chapter is "Schumpeter Inc", which talks about "unleashing flocks of black swans", radical reduction in the life span of businesses, turbulence, SUPER high speed broadband (100 times faster), professional guilds, frugal innovation (houses for $ 300), tidal waves of change, the emerging economies as the cauldron of innovation, embedded sensors, complicated careers, managing life as an opportunity, etc., etc. Flux, chaos, opportunity!

Tidal waves of change

That chapter speaks my language and as I have written many, many times before, as a business you ignore the "tidal wave of change" at your peril. But to go back to the start of this blog; "The storms of creative destruction are blowing us to a better place". How cool is that!? Schumpeter as the new economic theory to future growth and prosperity for the world, but hopefully also for your business.

The Miracle of Cardboard is Available for Everyone!

The sheet music as far as the arrangement is good BUT the shipping was horrible. Most sheet music distributors include cardboard in the shipping materials so the product won't be damaged. This company (Swanson) did not have any protective materials in the packaging. My music arrived crumpled and with deep creases in it that I cannot get out. I wouldn't be surprised it they said they drove over it with a car and then stuffed it in between the cushions of a couch and their dog dug it back out of the couch before it was sent to me. My advice, a simple piece of cardboard would delivery a good quality product and raise your star rating.

Fun, quick, and hot story!
Valentine is not a size 2, she is a woman with curves, and she is comfortable with it herself. She is perky, sassy, and knows what she wants: she wants to cook, and preferable to Gage, the man she has had a crush since school days.
Gage has noticed, and admired Valentine for a long time, but he knows Valentine is a woman for long term relationship, and those are not on Gage's plans.
But when Valentine starts to work on his ranch, she is all he can think, and dream, about. And as they get snowed in the cabin out on the prairie, things get out of hands, the passion they have for each other cannot be denied. They have one night of endless passion. But is Gage ready to commit, or will Valentine get her heart broken?
It was entertaining, one evening read, the characters are fresh, fun, and enjoyable. The story is sweet, cute and delightful, and the tale has a pleasing ending. Just a joy to read for a rainy night

(Minor spoilers that anyone could have guessed were coming) Eh...this book started out great but then got a little jumpy and finished poorly. The author(s) did a great job introducing the characters and setting the scene building the relationships and the reasons/motives for the hero/heroine's actions...Then all of a sudden it's sort of Bam (give in to passion), Bam (fight), BAM (separation), BAM (I cant live without you and I love you), BAM (Happy ending). Wait, what?! I wish there would have been just as much detail and thought put into there where, what, when why and how of the ending as there was of the beginning. Won't read again and won't purchase another from this author without massive recommendations.

Charming little read.

I had never read a romance novel and wanted to understand the appeal. There were basically two main characters (obviously) and only one minor character but it was not detrimental to the story. While I found the male character two-dimensional the female character had me charmed and invested in her journey almost from the outset. Given the constraints of the genre, I thought it was an excellent novella. I may never read another romance but I'm certainly glad I read this one. I highly recommend it.

Seemingly composed of equal parts enigma, experiment and exegesis, Carson's writings incorporate a dizzying spectrum of forms?prose poem, mock interview, travel journal, academic essay. "Mimnermos: The Brainsex Paintings" explores what are perhaps figmentary fragments of the ancient Greek poet's work, which divulges "a kind of hunger for the motions of the self that we are mining still." The blurb-like, often humorous paragraphs and prose poems of "Short Talks" (which are "on" subjects as varied as chromoluminism and Sylvia Plath) and "The Life of Towns" (with stops in "Apostle Town" and "Town of Greta Garbo") afford the pleasure of a whimsical crossword puzzle. But Carson achieves a surreal, perplexing brilliance in "Canicula di Anna," a 53-section poem partially set in the paintings of the 16th-century artist Perugino. The final selection, "The Anthropology of Water," takes an abruptly confessional turn, though one measured (as the title suggests) by the poet's near-scientific intellectualism that, as in all these writings, gives her work a dazzling lucidity.

Carson's poetry and prose defy categorization as much as they blur the boundaries of their own forms. In fact, nearly formless, Carson's writing resists convention through word variation and substitution, stretching language to create new meanings, formulas, and outcomes. For example, in "The Life of Towns," town becomes a representative letter like a in the formula: if ab and bc, then ac. In other words, townviewpointself and self includes all the various vantage points and different ways of expressing vision. Carson, a professor of ancient Greek and Latin, incorporates classical languages and a mythological sensibility in surprising ways throughout her work. The strongest and most engaging section is "Short Talks" (from her book by that title), which was excerpted in the 1992 Best American Essays but could have just as easily appeared in a poetry anthology. The pieces have the appeal of haiku and the experimental quality of language poetry by Scalapino and Lauterbach. These "talks" gracefully unite the vivid metaphor and rhythm of poetry with the contemplative and digressive discourse of essay. Carson knows the rules of language and how to break them. Plainwater is a book heady with the theme of loss

Plainwater is a work of art that is unlike any contemporary piece of writing I've read. It's heady with the themes of loss and freedom and the narrator speaks from a place of quiet intensity that burns more vehemently with each observation. She is on a road-trip, the narrator, with a companion that threatens an isolation more profound than any found alone. Constantly is the backdrop, the theme, and the language of water. One can get lost in Carson's language and, like any work of poetry, the language crosses the line and becomes something else: you are at one point no longer reading but are taking in the narrator's interior life as your own. The landscape of your mind and the story has become one and the same through the median skin of the words. Can't recommend this book highly enough. Like Glass, Irony and God- it bespeaks of maps not really charted by any other contemporary writer but maps that any woman will recognize as partly her own. It crosses into philosophy and parable simply in its adherance to its own interiority: like Hesse, Goethe, Novalis, Holderlin, Rilke et al... it shifts into another kind of story, the kinds that are shamanistic, that place in the reader reflections of their own truth.

About the Author
Max Brallier (maxbrallier.com) is the author of more than twenty books and games, including the previous book in The Last Kids on Earth series. He writes children's books and adult books, including the pick-your-own-path adventure Can YOU Survive the Zombie Apocalypse? He is the creator and writer of Galactic Hot Dogs, a sci-fi middle-grade series from Aladdin. He writes for licensed properties including Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, and Uncle Grandpa.

Under the pen name Jack Chabert, he is the creator and author of the Eerie Elementary series for Scholastic Books.  In the olden days, he was a game designer for the virtual world Poptropica and worked in the marketing department at St. Martin's Press. Great Story of Action and Adventure

Received the book yesterday. My son ran to the mailbox to get it. We read two chapters last night and he was loving it. I had to literally pull the book out of his hand and tell him to go to bed! I never thought I'd have to rip a book out of my sons hands - so THANK YOU for writing a great story. We also read the first book, Last Kids on Earth, twice!

Grandson loves it!

This was purchased for my grandson who loved the first book and asked him if I would get him this one. He was so excited the other day when it came. He's 10, in the 4th grade, and apparently quite a few of the kids in his class enjoy this author also, so it appears to be a good book for this age group.

Excellent book

My son was so excited to see this book for his birthday present. He absolutely loves this author and the series is great for 10 year old boys for sure. I'm going to read it next though.....
