Where do I begin?

I haven't read a book like this in a while. I craved this story needing to know the details of Talon's past. The passion between Jade and Talon is so beautiful. There are so many strings undone right now I need to wrap everything up.

Jade is a complete character who knows Talon is screwed up but still loves him. She wants to help him see through his past but I don't know if he ever will. His past is such a mystery and I'm dying to know what happened. We get little teaser bites but not the complete story and then the dangling candy at the end... come on... how could you leave us that way.

I just want to devour the next story. I want more details. The book flowed well keeping my interest. Always a surprise in every chapter, things happened I didn't expect and I was kept on my toes throughout the story. I couldn't put it down. I need the next book. I crave the next story.

Marjorie and Jade need to investigate more. I need to know the truth. They need to read more in the boxes...

What a great story from this author. I look forward to the next book. Amazing!

Hot, sexy, troubled

I didn't have alot of expectations with this new to me author...but I was floored. Talon and Jade's story is absolutely riveting. The characters are all flawed but perfect, if that makes any sense. The horror that is Talon (and the Steel Brothers lives) sucks you right in. The sexy times were just hot, hot, hot. Your heart sinks and flies and you wonder what next? What will be revealed? I hated to see it end.

Well, I'm a little late to the party, but I am finally here!! What a great story, Miss Helen!! It took no time for me to become hooked into this story. Jade and Talon are perfect. I love all the characters in the story, and cannot wait to dive into Book 2. The Steel Family are a perfect mix of sexy and mysterious. While I'm especially anxious to know Talon's story, I'm sure the other members have an equally intense story. Bring it on, Miss Helen!!!!

Soon the sarcophagus was totally destroyed, and the true form of the Nephalym was revealed to Hades's eyes.
It was a large egg! A six-foot, green egg that was now giving a much brighter glow than the sarcophagus!
But a crack had also begun to form on the bottom of the egg! Like its sarcophagus, it was also breaking apart! The crack grew wider and began spreading.
"Shit!" Hades again swore.
The egg cracked open!
A bright, green light burst out from the egg. Hades was momentarily blinded by the light. When his eyes finally adjusted to the light, he saw something inside the green light. He blinked several times. The light slowly faded. What was left in the middle of the cracked egg was...
A naked, green woman?!
All Hades could do was stare. Hades felt the Nephalym's jade-colored eyes studying him. He could almost feel her looking into his mind.
Would the Nephalym punish him for destroying her sarcophagus? Would she listen to his explanation or would she simply proceed to punish him?
The Nephalym's translucent wings fluttered, and she gracefully flew. She landed in front of Hades. Her eyes stared hard at Hades.
Hades cleared his throat.
"I can explain," he began, "I am not an enemy. And what I did was-"
The Nephalym held up her right hand. Before Hades could move, her hand touched his left cheek.
He felt the warmth of her touch. It began as a comforting warmth before it started getting hot. So hot, it began burning through his flesh!
Hades screamed in pain before his mind blacked-out!

Hades was a character that I couldn't help but love.

It has an interesting spin on good versus evil, Angels versus demons. I don't want to say too much and possibly spoil the story but I recommend this book to people who like modern fantasy.

Beautiful and fun book, but not as useful as "Making Faces"

Aucoin produces yet another beautiful and fun book about the art of make up. However, Face Forward is much like Making Faces without the practical techniques.
The book follows the same format as Making Faces without many improvements. The book begins with general articles about brows, lips, eyes, color, etc. However, these articles are truly general and only give written directions to achieve the looks in the photos. If you have the facial structures of the models, then these sections will be very useful to you! For the rest of us, I found the preliminary sections to be fun but not helpful.
The next section entitled "Face to Face" is useful with many before and after photos. The techniques are written and illustrated by photos of the make-over subject throughout the process. The looks are very natural and complimentary to the different ethnicities featured. I wish there were more makeovers in this section!
The final section entitled "Dimensions" features 48 different looks that are fun but not realistic for everyday use. In fact, most of the techniques demonstrated would only be useful for Halloween or a costume party. This section features many stars from Madonna to Tina Turner but offers little substantive content for everyday use.
Being a make-up-a-holic, I found Making Faces the better buy of the two. If you have to choose, choose Aucoin's first book for practical use. For fun, this book definitely takes the cake.

Exceptional, from both artistic and "how-to" perspectives

If you've ever looked at fashion magazines and wondered what makeup techniques went into creating the look, "Face Forward" may give you all the answers you need. Not only did Kevyn Aucoin do all the makeup in this book, but he also wrote it and contributed to the photography, art direction and design. He is a genius. Period.
Outside of the introductory chapters, the book is divided into five main parts: 1) "Behind Beauty," where Kevyn describes how he treats the face to bring out a wide range of attributes; 2) "Face to Face," which consists of in-depth photography and illustrations of the steps involved with creating beautiful looks; 3) "Dimensions," where Kevyn explores the "classic personifications of beauty" by making up actresses and models to look like stars of the past; and 4) & 5) forward-looking concepts of makeup techniques and the future of beauty, also using the faces of actresses (and even his mom).
I think it's great that someone as talented as Kevyn can be so generous in explaining his craft, but even if you're not into that, "Face Forward" holds up fantastically on its merits as an art/photography book: the resemblance of the current stars to the past ones is incredible (e.g., Winona Ryder as Elizabeth Taylor).
This book may be a little advanced for makeup artists who are just starting out, but hey, makeup is art, and art is about ideas, so it's definitely worth checking out. For anyone who is just plain interested in fashion and style, "Face Forward" will be intriguing, even if only for the skill exhibited in transforming one famous face into another. It's a masterpiece.

Good, but not an improvement from Making Faces.

Based on the same principles as Making Faces, Kevyn Aucoin created a reasonable sequel of his first book. However, making faces definitely had something in it that Face Forward is missing. If you liked Making Faces, I would recommend getting this book, too, but if you want to get one or the other, I would recommend Making Faces.

Nice but overpriced.

Has a couple interesting feats, otherwise this is pretty light fare. If they sold these for half the price it would be a perfect. I've found you buy these for one specific thing you want for your character and that's it, usually.

TL; DR- a one-feat-book 77%

Basics-Why do it from afar when you can hurt them up close! Melee Tactics Toolbox provides every up close and personal character with several new options ranging from spells, items, feats, class options, and even new archetypes much live every other player companion product.

Mechanics or Crunch-This is a major crunch book for players, but I wasn’t amazed. There are several new options, but nothing here immediately made me want to build a character based around that theme. Some of the new options seem like new expectations just for expansion sake as the archetypes underwhelmed me like the rogue archetype that strips out all the rogue powers that make a rogue a rogue. Nothing here is objectively bad, but it’s not as amazing as I expected. 4/5

Theme or Fluff-This book has a bit of theme, but not as much as I wanted. You get a few bits and pieces but not near as much as the world books the Paizo puts out. It feels light. 3.5/5

Execution- This book has a ton it it, but it feels a bit overstuffed. There are many things in the book, but it feels a bit like things were thrown in because of the melee thing and that was the sole reason that they made the cut. So, things didn’t flow as well as other books. Also, much of the execution was a bit off as there were a few too many walls of text to really draw me into and through the book. But, as a counterpoint, the book does have a nice font, decent layout aside from a few too many text walls, and some nice art. However, as a counterpoint to that, the book still has the standard Paizo price for its splatbooks which is a little high anyway. 4/5

Summary-This is my least favorite Paizo Pathfinder book to date. Overall, it’s not a horrible book, but compared to Paizo’s other products, I wouldn’t suggest you start with this one. Honestly, this is a one-feat-book meaning that you will find exactly one thing from this book that might, sometimes, help you PFS character. And, you will buy it so you can show your PFS GM the feat/spell/item, so you can legally use it in your game. But, truth be told, you can pass this book by and be ok even if you are a greatsword only fighter. Too many options that are not worth the price, little world and character story, and a less than stellar execution make this a book that won’t find its way into many Pathfinder collections. 77%

This book was an awakening for me. While reading it, I was seriously skeptical, but decided to give it a try. Ordered charcoal powder and capsules and I am happy to say I was amazed at the benefits of both. Excess gas and stomach discomfort, was eliminated by the capsules. I had been considering knee replacement surgery, but here again I was delightfully pleased. Made a poultice for my knee and within minutes the pain was gone, and it stayed gone until two days later. I am in the process of rebuilding knee cartilage with help from healthmasters.com.
God has given us everything we need, but that need doesn't include pharmaceuticals, which are man made poisons. Choose wisely.

NOT formatted for the Kindle

The very first clue that something was amiss was when I noticed the "I" in "Introduction" was missing. It went downhill from there. After scanning through the entire book, I could not find ONE complete sentence, paragraph, or cogent thought.

While the hardback edition may offer valid points to the use of Activated Carbon, I will not know by reading this electronic version.

Two thumbs down.

On the eastern side are beaches bordering margins of firm ground with mangroves and extensive swamplands to the north and east. At the north end of the bay is the village of Buena Ventura adjacent to Playa Larga (Long beach), and 35km south east of that is Playa Giron (Giron beach) at the small town of Giron, named after the notorious French pirate Gilberto Giron (c.1604). Playa Giron and Playa Larga were the landing sites for seaborne armed forces in the Bay of Pigs Invasion, a CIA-sponsored attempt to overthrow the government of Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro in April 1961. Receipe of Disaster

The writer gives a blow by blow discription of what happened to cause the Bay of Pigs disaster.
Allen Dulles was on a roll, having just used the CIA to take over Guatamala, and install a government we liked there.
Ike had never signed off the the Cuban plan, but let it continue. Kennedy came in and thought that Ike had approved it.
It was a fiasco from the start, with Kennedy demanding that he might pull the plug on the last day before the invasion, if he did not like it. The CIA and the military could not conceive that once things started that air support would be refused.
I knew from years ago that Kennedy had denied air support from our own Navy for the invasion.
What I did not know until reading this book was that Kennedy also reduced the size of the liberation forces B26 strikes, and eliminated 2 of them, thus allowing Fidel's air force to survive and slaughter the freedom fighters on the beach and their supplies coming in from the sea.
Also, the Alabama National guard had and pilots who trained the Cubans in flying the B26 and 2 of them were killed when they flew strikes in for ground support of the invasion.
Moving the target landing zone from Trinidad to the Bay of Pigs at the last minute eliminated any chance of survivors escaping into the mountains to fight as guerillas if anything went wrong, and everything went wrong.
The CIA flaws are numerous. They did not know about a reef that everybody in the area knew about, and sunk the supply ships.
They refused to place guns on the supply ships as unneeded, as there would be air cover, and were forced to because the owner of the ships would not let them use the ships unless they were armed. The guns were used a lot. All the communications equipment was in one crate and went to the bottom, making it impossible to communicate with the beach. CIA officials were not on the supply ships.
The air strike plan was not made clear to the Pres in advance.
The plan assumed an uprising that never took place. It was only in the minds of the invaders.
After the air strikes were cancelled, the CIA went ahead with the plan as there was no place to take a bunch of armed, pissed of Cuban freedom fighters, other than to Cuba.
It is a frustrating book to read.

The best narrative about this historical lesson

P. Wyden makes a fine illustration of the events. From the moment that a Republican Administration decided to launch military activities against Castro, the recruiting of the Exile participants, the CIA involvement in the training phase, and to the acceptance of the Kennedy Administration to expand the US committment, Wyden provides extensive insight and details not available before. He is also excellent in collecting first hand accounts from the Leaders and participants of the 2506 Brigade and captures their mixed emotions and opinions concerning the support they received from the USA.Compared to most books written about this subject, Wyden's is the most reliable and accurate that I've read.

The truth about the Bay of Pigs

Factual book, and revealing of what really happened, and who is responsible for the failure of the invasion. The objective of the plan was to free Cuba from communism. The initial military plan was sound, but then the politicians changed the location of the invasion from Trinidad (very close to the mountains to establish a guerrilla stronghold in case the invasion was not succesful) to the Bay of Pigs, a peninsula surrounded by swamps, far from the mountains. Then politicians (mainly President Kennedy) cancelled crucial air strikes two days prior to D Day, and on the morning of D Day. The result being that Castro's air force was not eliminated. Then on D Day, President Kennedy refused to provide air support, allowing Castro's air fighters to sink anything approaching the beaches. Bottom Line: The US Government allowed 1,500 men to invade Cuba, then left them to be killed or captured, refusing to help with air cover. It was more important to "keep the noise down" instead of achieving victory. Does this sound familiar?

About the Author
Andrew Hutchings has been working in the IT industry almost all his life. He started his development career programming embedded microcontrollers in assembly language for environmental monitoring systems. He then went on to systems administrator for a hosting company, in which he got his first taste for modifying the MySQL source code. Andrew created his own business in development and DBA work, which led him to be employed by Dennis Publishing, a major UK magazine publisher. In this role as Technical Architect he designed and implemented hosting setups, acting as senior developer and DBA. This was to be his first taste of MySQL clusters and led to his development of ndb_watch, a cluster monitoring daemon. After gaining Zend Certified Engineer and Certified MySQL Database Administrator qualifications he gained a position at Sun Microsystems as a MySQL Support Engineer. This involves working daily with the MySQL source code and customer API code to help diagnose and fix issues. He is now a specialist in MySQL Cluster and C APIs. In his spare time Andrew is a community contributor to MySQL with feature patches and bug fixes in both 5.1 and 6.0. He has also contributed to the Drizzle project, a fork of MySQL aimed at having a clean micro-kernel core, committing a significant amount of code to the project. Sergei Golubchik started on modifying MySQL source code in 1998, and has continued doing it as a MySQL AB employee since 2000. Working professionally with the MySQL sources he had a chance to get to know and extend almost every part of the server code - from the SQL core to the utility functions. He was one of the primary architects of the Plugin API. After working for ten years in the ever-growing MySQL AB, and later in Sun Microsystems as a Principal Software Developer, he resigned to join a small startup company that works on MariaDB - an extended version of the MySQL server, where he continues to do what he likes the most - hack on MySQL, architecting and developing the MySQL/MariaDB Plugin API, making it even more powerful, safer, and easier to use. He works and lives in Germany, near Cologne, with his lovely wife and two kids.

Highly recommended. If you want to develop MySQL extensions, buy this book. It's a must, written by two expert professionals who probably know more than anyone else on this matter. The book is full of practical examples explained with the theoretical information necessary to make it stick.

What an amazing book! I purchased the Scottish book (along with its companion piece, 18 Greatest Irish Golf Holes) as gifts for my golf-loving husband. When they arrived, I was curious to see if the quality was as advertised, and to my surprise, I couldn't stop turning the pages. Not only is the photography stunning, but the text is a beautifully written narrative that is as interesting to a female non-golfer (myself) as to the most dedicated and devout lover of the game. As the reader is carried course by course through the selected "greatest" holes, the book is equal parts history, travel guide, stories of local customs and color, and finally, a revelation of why this game is a lifetime passion for those who discover its meaning as not only a sport but a way of life. And all illustrated by not only breathtaking photos but charming pen-and-ink illustrations. A work of art and a really great read. I now better understand my husband's love of golf in all its frustrating and humbling and uplifting complexity.

He loved the book

I bought this as a gift for my husband who for years has been dreaming about golfing in Scotland. He loved the book! The pictures are breathtakingly beautiful and the description of the courses very detailed. Because of 18 Greatest Scottish Golf Holes, he's now going to Scotland to play golf. I get credit for showing him the best courses -- and a week of peace and quiet!

I love this book and have bought two copies of it and also two copies of its sister book on the Irish golf courses. The stories and photography are best in class and this book makes a great gift. This is a serious book for serious golfers and well worth the price.

Practical and current - good value

This is the best how-to book on this subject. The author has real-world experience and it shows in the organization of the book. It contains practical insight on managing the outsourcing of help desk services. It seeems to be generic by design. If you have industry-, company- or culture-specific issues, you may have to do some more research. Great starting point for new help desk managers.

Terrible Choice

This book has a 1998 copyright date -- that's my own stupidity! To quote the author, "buy in haste, repent in leisure." I bought it because of the reviews on the site.
Always check the copyright date before you buy!
It is verbose and without substance.
If you've spent more than a week in any kind of enterprise environment, you should know most of what is in here.
If anyone really wants it, I'll gladly give you a good deal on my copy!

Covers every detail, including some missed in other books

This thorough book provides a clear roadmap to designing, implementing and operating a help desk. The author leaves no key process out and completely covers everything from initial concept to measuring support effectiveness and process improvement.
Ms. Czgel starts with an initial strategy that is focused on planning help desk services that are completely aligned to requirements and are based on a mission statement. This business-oriented approach is refreshing and will keep IT grounded in the real reasons for a help desk. More importantly, in my opinion, is the process that she proposes for careful selection of services to provide. My experience has shown that an overly ambitious set of service goals will kill a help desk implementation early in its life by offering a too much before there is a stable help desk process in place. As such, Ms. Czgel's approach is realistic and lays the foundation for a success implementation. I especially liked the use of customer profiles and the emphasis on roles and responsibilities early in the planning process.
The section on the actual design of the help desk structure provides insights and information that can be applied to a large number of solutions. Since help desks will be organized in accordance with requirements and unique mission statements, this section of the book is like a catalog of patterns. I liked the excellent tips on how to best structure the help desk to meet requirements and mission. The information on accurately estimating staffing requirements is consistent with industry best practices and something that, believe it or not, is often overlooked when help desks are established. I also found the chapter on consolidating help desks valuable because this is a common project that many companies face. The advice given is sound and well thought out. Since my job is service delivery consulting this entire section was particularly valuable. Part three of the book gets into the meat by thoroughly covering the processes that are essential to running a help desk. Most of this material is not new or much different from what other help desk books provide, but there were a few topics that stood out as both unique [to books of this genre] and reflect best practices by the best-run help desks. Examples are change control, disaster recovery and vendor management. These topics show that the author not only considers business alignment, but also cross-functional alignment within IT.
Professional resources and underlying technology are provided in part four. In the first chapters the author points out sources of standards, best practices and other support, such as the Help Desk Institute, Software Support Professionals Association, etc. In the final chapters she provides a clear explanation of how technologies such as ACDs (automatic call distributors) and IVRs (interactive voice response) equipment work and how they can provide additional efficiencies to a well-run help desk operation. The author also provides good coverage of tools and techniques that will make help desk operations responsive to user needs as well as support internal IT processes and procedures.
This book wraps up with an in-depth coverage of operational requirements for the help desk once it has been implemented. It hits all of the critical success factors, such as performance metrics, service level agreements, communications and internal evaluations. I particularly liked the chapter on marketing, which is something that is important but not often done be most help desks. This proactive approach to keeping users (your customers) informed of new services, accomplishments and tips is excellent and will go a long way towards attaining high customer satisfaction scores - not to mention proving the value of the help desk to IT and business management.
As a service delivery consultant I found this book to be one of the best for planning and implementing a world-class help desk. I personally gained a lot of knowledge from it, and it reinforced some of my past experiences and accomplishments. It earns 5 stars and my highest recommendation.
