Don't bother

This book is not only poorly written, it is also poorly edited. I am not a textile engineer or textile technologist, and I found obvious errors in the first chapters that would actually affect the quality of work anyone using this book would perform. I think that the authors of this book should be ashamed of themselves. I suspect they are professors that needed to be published, and now they are. Their peers should review this book before giving them any credibility.

Suggestions for the Second Edition

This review is based solely on the List of Contents alone. So, the rating is very much tentative until I see the actual contents.
As a retired academic who taught Textile Testing and Analysis early in his career, I am happy to come across to this book today, and would like to congratulate authors. I have not had an opportunity to see the actual contents, but looking through the List of Contents, I am impressed by the book's quite thorough coverage.
My suggestions for inclusion (preferably as separate chapters) in the second edition are:
1. Testing for Unevenness or Irregularity in Fibers and Textile Products.
This topic is of one of the utmost importance because the quality of textiles cannot be separated from the theoretical as well as practical aspects of the statistical features of Textiles .
Also, it is my humble opinion that some "specialists" are over-indulgent in the use of Integrals. Integrals, by nature of the mathematical operation, actually "average out" rather than "analyse" the ripples we need to amplify the differences rather than to put small and big into one basket - wiping out the ripples.
2. On the Peculiar Nature of Textiles (There are a number of them but this is just one of them).
Results of Textile Testing require their statistical parameters as much as the Test Item itself, because of the extreme magnitude of their CV%. Most materials and products other than Textiles have much smaller CV%.
(e.g., Strength tests can never be complete without showing the Max. and Min. values.
Also, strength testing need not be the Breaking Strength, the strength well before the rupture is what we are aiming at, etc. The importance of "Elongation" or "Extensibility" needs to be re-discovered as well!)
3. Quality of the Test Data
When we wish to discuss the problems of Accuracy and Precision in any Testing or Measurement, we cannot to go without seriously tackling the topics like, Calibration and How to determine the performance characteristics, or the Input-To-Output Relationship of the Testing Devices (so that the quality of the Testing Devices can be compared). This is a good place to introduce and discuss the USDA's "Calibration Cotton", as well.
In the Appendices, it would be an idea to include the relationship between the ISO9000 and the Textiles.

Everything but the content was fine.

The product itself was fine. It was used so it was a little tattered but fine. The book it's self was crap though. There were errors in grammar, math, and go knows what else. I stopped using it about a week into the semester but couldn't return it without being charged to do so. In short, don't buy this book, don't rent this book, maybe use it for kindling or papier-m�ch�, but don't expect to learn anything from it.
